It's that time of year again! Graduation Season. You may be the eager parent tied with all the details your child forgot to mention or a relative/ friend who is ready to get to the celebration. Well, I have been to over 50 graduations in 13 years including high school and college. Here are some tips on how to survive a high school graduation. Tip #5 is the best.
#1) To be early or late for a graduation
That doesn't matter, you need to be able to obtain or borrow a graduation program. Once you get the graduation booklet, check for the three things.
-The program
-Number of graduates
-Is your graduate's name in the booklet? And how many times?
This will allow you to know how attentive you will need to be and estimate how long the graduation will last.
#2) Bring a friend, if possible
Often I try to bring a teenager, I know and use the time to bond with them. Or I bring a friend and we "people watch" and "give our reviews" on the graduation.
#3) Select two random graduates and cheer loudly for them.
I usually pick students from a different race from me.
#4) Bring Lite Snacks
#5) This is the most important advice for surviving a graduation. Predetermine a location for the graduate and family to meet up after the ceremony. I have wasted so much time, looking for a graduate after graduation. Due to all of the excitement, they don't answer their phone. Everyone is treating them like a celebrity. What I have done is identified a spot for the graduate and their family. I send the location to the graduate begin the graduate starts and send it to the family during the graduation.
